What you need to know about punishment in dog training and it's effects on not only your dog's behavior but your own! With all the dog adoption resources out there today, it can be very confusing and sometimes even stressful when you are looking at the multitude of ways that we can adopt a new dog. With a growing number of private rescue organizations and the internet comes a growing concern about the dogs that are being put up for adoption. Some of the concerns include a lack of history on the animal, lack of medical history, lack of potential bite history and more.... The state of Rhode Island Law states that dogs are deemed *personal property*. If your newly adopted dog has a hidden bite history, you can and will be liable for his/her next bite once you sign the adoption papers! Everyone wants to try to save a life BUT we cannot jeopardize another's life in doing so, whether that life be human or another parties animal! No one wants to take on huge liabilities! This workshop will cover the in's and out's of unraveling the mysteries of dog adoptions. Betty has over 45 years of experience with shelter dogs and she now brings the good, the bad and the ugly of adoptions to you so that you can make educated decisions about adoptions! Contrary to popular belief, it's not just about a clicker and treats! Too many dog owners are getting discouraged and confused after they enroll in clicker training courses that are not being taught by experienced practitioners. Many walk away feeling that all they did was bribe a dog to do what they wanted via clicker and food rewards. This workshop will dispel the myths surrounding marker base training. Betty will be working with dogs at a shelter and the demonstrations will be live and uncut, working with a variety of shelter dogs!
